We are seeking an enthusiastic, school experienced, Laboratory Assistant to join our Science Department on a part-time basis (0.6 FTE). This role supports the College’s laboratory operations, STEM programs and Observatory, contributing to a safe, engaging and innovative learning environment for students.

About the Role
Reporting to the Head of Science and working closely with the Laboratory Technician, the Laboratory Assistant:
- Prepares equipment, chemicals, materials and solutions for practical STEM classes
- Assists teachers and students during laboratory and practical activities
- Supports the College’s Observatory operations, including telescope servicing and liaison with astronomy networks
- Monitors laboratory supplies, stock, equipment and servicing requirements
- Ensures chemical, equipment and environmental safety in line with relevant standards
- Maintains compliance documentation, SDS records and regulatory requirements
- Provides administrative coordination for practical class delivery and procurement
About you
You will bring experience, knowledge or interest in laboratory environments, STEM support or related scientific fields, along with:
- Knowledge of astronomical instruments (e.g., telescopes, drives, filters)
- Strong numeracy, literacy, robotic and computer skills (Python desirable)
- Knowledge of chemical handling, storage and disposal standards
- A willingness to continue learning — including upskilling in Observatory science
- Strong initiative, attention to detail and problem-solving skills
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with staff and students
- A commitment to child safety and wellbeing
