ELTHAM College is seeking an enthusiastic and motivated Sport Department Trainee to join our dynamic Health & Physical Education team for a 12-month traineeship commencing in 2026. This is a fantastic opportunity for a recent school leaver who is passionate about sport, physical activity, coaching, and supporting young people.

This is a traineeship role that is paid employment, with education being provided through an AFL Sportsready Training Program, giving a nationally recognised qualification.

About the Role

As the Sport Department Trainee, you will gain hands-on experience across both practical and administrative components of school sport, including:

  • Assisting with PE classes, coaching sessions, and skill development activities
  • Supporting major sporting events such as carnivals, interschool competitions and co-curricular programs
  • Helping coordinate logistics, equipment, uniforms and venue bookings
  • Mentoring students and encouraging participation in physical activity
  • Contributing to promotional content for newsletters and social media
  • Participating in outdoor education camps and school activities

This traineeship is ideal for individuals considering a future career in sports coaching, teaching, health, wellbeing, or community sport.

About you

We are looking for someone who is:

  • Passionate about sport, physical activity and student development
  • Energetic, proactive and willing to learn
  • Confident communicating with students, staff and families
  • Well-organised with good teamwork skills
  • Interested in gaining practical experience across coaching, events and sport administration
  • Completion of secondary schooling (Year 12 preferred)
  • Working with Children Check (or willingness to obtain)
  • National Police Check (within the last 6 months) 
  • First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain)
  • Must be eligible to enrol in a SportsReady traineeship program

Preferable: 

  • Experience working with children or coaching (desirable)
  • Basic sports coaching knowledge (desirable)
  • Intermediate Microsoft Office skills
