ELTHAM College Board Leadership Transition

18 December 2025

We wish to share with our community a planned leadership transition for the College Board, effective from the beginning of 2026.

After serving the ELTHAM College Board with distinction, Jim Grant will retire from his position as Chair at the conclusion of 2025. Jim has provided thoughtful and values-driven leadership during his tenure, drawing on extensive experience across the education, corporate and community sectors. His focus on strong governance and strategic direction has supported the continued growth of ELTHAM College as an independent school committed to Growing Hearts and Minds.

We thank Jim for his significant contribution and dedicated service to the College, and we look forward to welcoming him back at future Community events.

We are also pleased to confirm that Cynthia Gebert, current Vice Chair of the College Board, was elected by the Board as the new College Chair at its meeting on 20 October 2025. Cynthia will formally assume the role on 1 January 2026; the beginning of the College’s financial year.

Cynthia is an experienced senior executive, Board Director and respected strategic leader, bringing a deep understanding of governance, organisational strategy and positive customer experience. She currently serves as the Telecommunications Industry Ombudsman/CEO.As a College parent, Cynthia is passionate about ensuring every student has access to the opportunities they need to learn, grow and thrive - a commitment that strongly reflects the College’s purpose and values.

As one of Australia’s few truly independent schools governed by a Company Board responsible to parent members, these leadership roles are critical in ensuring the College continues to operate with clarity, accountability and long-term vision.

We thank Jim again for his outstanding leadership and welcome Cynthia to her new role as Chair of the ELTHAM College Board.
