Throughout Celebration Week, the Year 12 Captains organised a different theme each day for our cohort to get involved in and have some fun before exams.
Monday kicked off with ‘Anything But a Bag’ Day, where students had to find creative ways to carry their books and pencil cases - with one rule: no motor-powered accessories - thanks to Sim! Ollie Mair stretched it slightly by hauling his gear in a child’s John Deere electric tractor. Other special mentions go to Chloe Mitchell with her wheelbarrow and Nathan Bradshaw and his billy cart rolling down the College hills.
Tuesday was all about Crazy Hairstyles. From bobs to spikes and mullet wigs, the creativity (and courage) was on full display. Oli Ashkar stayed true to his usual style - already crazy enough to fit right in!
Wednesday brought one of the week’s highlights: ‘Dress as a Teacher’ Day. Students showed lots of love for their favourite staff, with plenty of ‘Shanes’ and ‘Matts’ roaming the campus. Cheryl-Anne proved a clear crowd favourite, with many hilarious tributes. At lunch time we held a final student vs staff sports match, featuring both basketball and netball — complete with big 3-pointers, slick passes and even a dunk from Ben Warner. The staff narrowly took the win, but everyone loved the friendly competition.
Thursday marked our final formal Year 12 assembly, where students gave heartfelt 30-second speeches to thank those who’ve supported their journey here at ELTHAM. Afterwards, we signed shirts and dresses for keepsakes before heading into our much-anticipated Year 12 Sleepover. There were games of hide and seek, pizza for dinner, musical chairs, and even some ‘study’ (thanks to Stuart’s new English card game). We wrapped up the night with Happy Gilmore and a lot of laughter.
Finally, Friday featured another dress-up theme. This time, something starting with the same letter as your name. From a herd of cows to creative solo efforts, the energy was high for our final morning. During the Senior Assembly, Zeki and Aiden took the mic as MCs, and we watched the Year 12 video, played a Kahoot and enjoyed a special karaoke performance from Oli and Rex.
The week ended on a high note with a trip to Bounce, where trampolines and dodgeball courts provided the perfect mix of chaos and celebration before heading home for some well-deserved rest.
A huge thank you goes to our amazing mentors — Oli, Stuart, Shane, and Chez — for their generosity and support throughout the week, and to Sim Kenny, whose planning and enthusiasm made it all possible. Celebration Week wouldn’t have been the same without her.
And finally, thank you to all the students who threw themselves into the fun and made our last week of school one to remember.
